Remote X character encoding problem

Hi, I am having trouble displaying win1251-encoded text on remote x. The locale on the debian machine is set to bg_BG, my remote x server (under windows) is exceed.

I've been trying for a couple of days to either find a way to configure exceed to use win1251 or use luit, with no success.

The only thing that works is 'xterm -lc', which opens an xterm window that displays the win1251 charset correctly. However I need other x applications to be fixed too, and starting them through luit doesen't work. 'luit xterm' doesen't work either. I am currently at a loss of what to do, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
