Hello, when I run redshift I get an error and it cannot start. It used to work fine before. I attached a screenshot with the error message.

The secret for debugging errors like this is to enter a well-chosen portion of the exact error message within double quotes (so it looks for that exact phrase) in a web search engine.

For example, a search for redshift "geolocation disabled for UID 1000" in Google Search returns the following page:

https://github.com/jonls/redshift/issues/289

which has a potential solution to your problem right at the end of the thread.

Hello and thanks, I found the last answer on this thread https://github.com/jonls/redshift/issues/289 from sunniboi to be the most helpful, and now redshift works. The answer is

pleas take this in config when crashed mit UID 1000 or geoclue

redshift fails with Geolocation disabled for UID 1000

Or else you can skip Geoclue

There also is a config file for RedshiftGUI itself that allows you to either fine-tune geoclue, or just turn it off and plug your very own longitude/latitude coordinates instead : see http://jonls.dk/redshift/ , by the middle of the page.

You then definitely get rid of geoclue, but otoh if you move your computer (by more than 500km! East of West!) you'll end with an incorrect setting.

Now, even if things went well already, I'd encourage you to check that .conf file, because it allows much more fine-tuning : actual temperature setting at night (like 'wow, could it be a bit less rrred anyway'), screen dimming or not, etc.

And it is easily editable even for a dull guy like me!
