Recovering from time out when using Apt-get

Hi, I know this sounds paranoid but what is the correct way of recovering from a connection timeout when the fetching of packages timed out? The message printed on screen advised me to use the "--fix-missing" flag but I didn't do that. Instead, I simply run "apt-get install gnome" again and it seems good so far.

Thanks for your advices

Yes. I really don't bother with timeouts. Just restart apt with the same command and it works fine.

Sometimes however you may need to run dpkg manually to correct a configuration of an aborted installation.

Do you mean dpkg-reconfigure?
