Reconfiguring the Xserver to get scrollwheel working

I know it's a relatively simple matter, but how do I get the scroll wheel on my mouse working? Can I simply run the command " dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86" ?

usually it's just a matter of adding the line:
Code:
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
to the "InputDevice" section of your /etc/X11/xorg.conf or /etc/X11/XF86Config file...

I ran into a bit of a problem. I added those lines to the input device, but the scrolll wheel still doesn't work.

what mouse are you using?? what protocol do you have set in your X config?? if the protocol is set to "PS/2" try changing it to:
Code:
Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
