Random Crashes w/ no error messages in DeMuDi

I just installed the DeMuDi1.2.1 distribution (the latest one)
It uses the Debian kernel 2.6

and a lot of programs either don't open or just close randomly with out warning. I'm not getting any error messages either. I want to see if I can fix it before I delete it and try a different distribution.
any suggestions?
