quick /user/bin question.

this is kind of frustrating.

i stated in this thread and am bringing over here since i figured out how to do it in mdk, but can't get it to work in deb.

the ~/.bin is 755 along with all of the files in it. but they still aren't working. is there something in the base that i have to adjust to have it see my bash_profile telling it to also use my bin?

thanks.

"the ~/.bin is 755 along with all of the files in it. but they still aren't working."

The . in .bin makes it a hidden directory. Some programs handle hidden directories just like any other file and some programs make hidden directories a special case and do something different with them. So maybe there is some program somewhere that is screwing you up by handing ~/.bin differently than it would handle ~/bin. I suggest that you try what you are trying to do with a directory that is not a hidden directory and see if it works the way that you think it should.

ok, i tried having it in ~/bin, same results. the thing about it is when i
$source .bash_profile
it only stays for that login. i dont' have a .bash_logout file to remove. maybe i should add one, but i'm not sure what i would put into it to keep the source alive throughout all of my cmdline adventures.

for those curious, most of these are just ssh scripts. but it's nicer to just have to type out three letters and tab, than having to type out the whole thing.

got it. found it searching for something totally different. kind of funny how that happens.

export PATH = newdir:$PATH

if someone else ever needs it.

cheers and thank you.
