quick kernel questions

Hi there

I have a few questions and wondered if someone would help me with them please. I'm running 64-bit Squeeze.

I'd like to see how kernel 3.2 is on Debian.

Can I just install the kernel package and -headers with no ill effects?

If I run update-grub will it be like the old menu.lst and list numerous kernels? (I realise they update differently).

Will I need to change Nvidia drivers?

Thanks in advance for any help

Kernel 3.2 is in the stable backports repo. Install it from there, plus its headers if you want to build something like the nvidia module, and the installer will add the relevant option in grub's menu.

If you're using the NVIDIA drivers from the Debian repo's things should update automatically and you'll see the new kernel at the top of the GRUB list. I have had problems with the NVIDIA modules not working with the older kernel images selected from the GRUB menu, but not recently.

Thanks for the comments, much appreciated, I'll give it a spin!

EDIT - the kernel installed fine and I switched to nouveau driver to save too much messing around. All seems fine.
