Question about Releases

I have version 40r4a-i386 installed on my computer.
I thought this was etch.
Is 4.or5 an update of etch?
How long is 4.0r4a good for updates?

I ask because I found this information on Debian's website:

Quote:
Debian GNU/Linux 4.0r5 was released October 23rd, 2008.

The current stable distribution of Debian GNU/Linux is version 4.0r5,
codenamed etch. It was released on October 23rd, 2008.
I installed version 40r4a-i386 quite a while ago.

I would also like to know which architecture I should use: is i386 ok?

4.0r5 is the latest update of the stable distribution, codename "Etch".

Etch will still receive security updates after Lenny(5.0) is declared stable.

i386 should work just fine on your machine.

Regards.

I'm sure i386 is fine. Etch is fine too, if you like 2 year old apps, drivers, etc. People who know what they are doing in Debian have long since upgraded to Lenny.
