question about /etc/false

i was wondering on how to remove a user from /etc/false. a friend of mine put certain users in there and i have no clue on how to remove them.

bear with me for a moment here. I assume that when a given user attempts to login you receive an error message, smething along the lines of shell /etc/false is not found.

If this is the case I would assume that your /etc/passwd file has been modified. If you look in this file and search for a user that this is occuring for you will likely see /etc/false on that line. In order to undo this change you will need to edit this file and place a vaid shell in place of /etc/false. You may well see samples of other shells in this file which you can use as a substitute.

hehe, actually i got it. i was trying to change a user's shell from /etc/false back to /bin/bash or whatever. so i found chsh, but i appreciate the help. thanks.
