Proper way to do multiarch in Wheezy?

It appears that ia32-libs is somewhat deprecated in Wheezy. I have commercial software as an i386 architecture deb file that I need to install on my amd64 Wheezy box. Can anyone explain the proper way to install an i386 package in the amd64 version of Wheezy?

Hi,

afaik, there most complete documentation is on the Debian wiki. See: http://wiki.debian.org/Multiarch/HOWTO
If that doesn't provide enough info post back, and perhaps we can help.

Cheers,

Evo2.

PS. I thought you'd ditched Debian for Linux Mint ;-)

Thank you for the reply (and for not saying RTFM...although I really should have searched Debian wiki first). The link explains everything nicely.

P.S. Mint is on my laptop. Debian stable is still my main desktop (I just installed MATE on it instead of Gnome 3).

I would have thought so, but not in my case. I installed the multiarch-support package, but my deb file still refused to install due to dependency errors. I tried again after running "dpkg --add-architecture i386" and still got dependency errors. I then ran "apt-get -f install" and it install a large number of i386 packages, and that finally allowed installation of my deb file. So far, everything seems to work like it should.

Does this mean your problem is solved? If so, can you mark the thread [Solved].
Thanks,
jdk
