Problems with debian Sarge
Hello everybody :)

I downloaded Debian Sarge 3.1 DVD trough jigdo, everything was fine but when I install it and try to run dselect (or aptitude), to install gnome, there's no package named gnome-*anything*.
I went in the directory pool/main/g
and there I found things like "gnome-session" and so on, so I don't understand why this packages are not shown.
The DVD is in sources.list, the only possible reason I can imagine is that the md5sum check says that there are some files missing, here you can see the list:

NOT FOUND ***** ./dists/testing/main/binary-i386/Release
NOT FOUND ***** ./dists/testing/main/binary-i386/Packages
NOT FOUND ***** ./dists/testing/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz
NOT FOUND ***** ./dists/testing/main/debian-installer/binary-i386/Packages
NOT FOUND ***** ./dists/testing/main/debian-installer/binary-i386/Packages.gz
NOT FOUND ***** ./dists/testing/contrib/binary-i386/Release
NOT FOUND ***** ./dists/testing/contrib/binary-i386/Packages
NOT FOUND ***** ./dists/testing/contrib/binary-i386/Packages.gz

Thanks in advance for any help :)

I`m pretty new at this but if there are missing packages in your CD try to install those packages from a mirror....

The problem is that I don't understand if it's a problem with the iso I downloaded, with my configuration, or with my DVD reader...

I managed to buy Linux Format Magazine with a full copy of Sarge on it. I would recommend doing this as it is probably quicker easier and more reliable.

I tried to use the isos of the first three cds included in one magazine, but I've the same problem...
At this point I think it's a problem with my cd/dvd reader

I did have problems but I found that I didn't have enough hdd memory so I bought a 6.4GB HD to add to my computer.

I am a newbie to Linux so unfortunately I cant help you further.

Good Luck
