Problems w/ Synaptic
Hello everybody.
Today I made to final choice to completely make the step to Debian and leave Windows behind me after 5 years. I am a linux user for over 3 years and I started using it now. Period. But there seems to be having issue's with Synaptic, When I select certain packages Synaptic wants to remove Gnome-desktop-environment but I do not want that because all I have left then is the console after a reboot. How can I un-install some packages without removing Gnome-desktop-environment with it? Thank you very mutch for your response. |
Well, it all depends on which packages you're wishing to remove. If you're trying to remove a package on which another package depends, the depending package will be removed as well.

Thank you for your response. It cannot be removed unless it depends on another package. Great.
Is there any way to remove gnome and re-install gnome as minimum? |
a solution might be to remove gnome and install gnome-core instead, from there off what you need in addition.

The actual gnome-desktop-environment package is a 'fake' package and can be removed without really removing anything. If it wants to remove other stuff then I might be worried.
