Problem with XMMS sound

When logged in as root, I can play music cd's with XMMS, but when logged in to my normal user account, XMMS refuses to recognise the music cd although I can play mp3s with it. Basically what happens is that my cdrom directory is shown as empty when I try to load files with my normal user account, but as root the files show, play and load ok.

Can anybody please point me in the right direction to solve this very irritating problem?

Thanks
Joe

command : usermod -G audio yourself

log out/log in and let me know

I am a member of the audio group already.

The thing is, it is just with audio cd's that XMMS doesn't want to co-operate. I can play mp3's as root and as normal user, but not audio cd's...

I noticed that my normal user is not a member of cd-rom group. Will try to add there & see what happens.

In the meantime, any and all advice is welcome

Cheers
Joe

Problem solved - I added my normal account to the cdrom group, logged out and in and the problem was solved.
