Problem with x

I am having problems getting a GUI on my HP laptop. I have tried xfree86 and xorg. I know it is the settings i am putting in. My question is this, can i use the xorg.conf file generated from Ubuntu and copy that to a debian installation? Currently i am running Ubuntu.

there are some differencies between xorg.conf and XF86conf - mouse and keyboard are described not the same way.
