Problem with apt-get /dselect

Hi I'm hoping someone can help me here. I am having trouble updating my system because a package "refuses" to be removed, updated or otherwise behave -- causing an abort during the install process (see below).

Is there a simple way I can manually get rid of the offending package?

Have done and did not solve the problem. However, I did resolve it by noting that the failing script wanted to delete a file that was not there. So just created a file with that name and the script ran and the offending package uninstallled.
