problem installing debian package
 
i have installed dpkg-1.14.5 and and have installed its dependencies also namely libc6,attr,acl,coreutils in the order specified.

everything has installed without error.
now when i m installing any .deb package its giving me error

"FAILED TO OPEN PACKAGE INFO FILE '/usr/local/var/dpkg/status' for reading:No such file or directory"


can anyone tell me what is wrong with the installtion.

Are you running Debian ? If so what version ?

I have to ask, because I have never seen an installation that didn't already have dpkg installed and functioning...

Did you use aptitude to do the upgrade ? or did you manually download and install each piece ?
if you did this manually do you not have an internet connection that would allow you to use aptitude ?

Judging by this thread he is trying to install dpkg on LFS (insert rant here).

Unfortunately I don't think anyone in the Debian forum will have the knowledge required. You might try Debian IRC or maybe the developers mailing lists. The dpkg documentation should definitely be studied thouroughly.

Personally I have no clue.
