problem installing debian 3.1 on a server with LSI Logic 53c1010 SCSI Card

Hi I am a system adminitrator and I have tried very hard to convince my management to use linux. They have infact responded positively, but the problem is that We have a server designed by HP, which uses the Symbios LSI Logic Card 53C1010-66(SCSI Adapter).I dont know how to install the driver before installation, and I personally choose Debian for installation on our server.

Now I am in a fix because my management has responded positively, but still I cant set up the Server.

Kindly help me as soon as possible!!

Try using the sym53c8xx driver. I know that it doesn't appear to be the right one, but check out this changelog entry:

Code:

Fri Apr 14 9:00 2000 Pam Delaney (pam.delaney@lsil.com)
        * version sym53c8xx-1.6b-9
        - Added 53C1010_66 support.
        - Small fix to integrity checking code.
        - Removed requirement for integrity checking if want to run
          at ultra 3.
Mon Jan 10 10:00 2000 Pam Delaney (pam.delaney@lsil.com)
        * version sym53c8xx-1.60
        - Added capability to use the integrity checking code
          in the kernel (optional).
        -  Added PPR negotiation.
        - Added support for 53C1010 Ultra 3 part.
        - Based off of 1.5f

Note that both of those were in the year 2000, so I think you are probably good to go with this driver.

I would have thought that the install process would automatically detect the card and load the correct driver module.

During the installation process, when it comes up and asks you for drivers because it cannot find a harddrive to install, you should be able to select SCSI drivers to use.
