E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to
correct the problem.

update available list script returned error exit status 1.
Press <enter> to continue.

Then I ran;

I hit the same exact problem when upgrading from 'testing' to 'unstable' a couple days ago. It must be a problem with the package. Anyone have any ideas on how to purge the foomatic package?

Nigel_Tufnel 12-30-2003 06:19 AM

Others have had the same problem with this package. Hulkprotector posted a fix:

echo foomatic purge | dpkg --set-selections

I read a post on Debian User mailing list about this the solution suggested there was to move the /etc/foomatic/filter.conf to a backup file then do the configure and there should be no problem as the file is not there when the replacemeet happens.

Hi folks,

Thanks for your advice.

To my surprize the Debian box (testing/unstable) is now working normal again after leaving it untouched for one day.

On Konsole
# dpkg --configure -a
it went through without problem

# apt-get update
also without porblem

Now Kmail can send and receive mails again (after that incident, it can't send mail, alwasy indicating without "sender". I re-checked "Settings -> Configure Kmail" several times without discovering any problem there)

Maybe this is the problem of "Testing/Unstable version"

On Konsole
# dselect update
# apt-get dist-updat
Invalid Operation dist-update

Kindly advise what does it mean

TIA

You are using the wrong command it would be dist-upgrade then you would be upgrading your distribution but you really do not want to do this unless you change your distribution you are tracking from testing/unstable to just pure unstable then you use this command to upgrade the packages to the new distribution.
