problem about instalation

hi

I am trying to instal debian on my dell optiplex machine but my installations stops after couple minutes....the last line was

hde:maxtor 6y160n0, ata disk drive
ide0 at 0x1f0-0x1f7, 0x3f6 on irq 14

and I do not know what that mean....
I have sata disk

When I press F6 I found there a notice about ccertian dell machines and instruction which says

aic7xxx=no_probe

what means triple xxx in aic7xxx??

thank you in advance

It seem's you get stuck during boot process because probing for your hardware leads to some kind of conflict. Did you start installation without boot options? The default kernel for sarge is 2.4 which may have problems with more recent hardware. When booting from the installation CD, there ist a prompt at the beginning, where it says "press F1 for help...etc". If you type
Code:
linux26
your installation will boot kenrel 2.6, which may suite better for your hardware.

I think what
Quote:
aic7xxx=no_probe
means is: type that at boot prompt, an there will be no probing for harware of type "aic7xxx", whereas "xxx" stands for any kind of version of that (I think SCSI-)controller.

Cheers!

problem with debian installation

After starting the installer with expert26, you'll eventually get to the “Load installer components from CD” screen. If you're still having problems, try deselecting “ata-piix” from the list.
