Preview of videos in konqueror

How to make konqueror show a preview of movies that are compatible with kaffeine? I mean when you just move the mouse over the video file, konqueror will show a preview picture and starts the audio of that file.

Configure the Previews & Meta-Data section in your control centre (kcontrol)--> KDE Components--> File Manager, make sure you have a check mark in Use thumbnails embedded in files. you may need to adjust the Maxiumum file size option. Also make sure you have previews enabled in konqueror--> View--> Preview.

Thanks. I followed your suggestion and got the audio files preview to work but not the video files. I did not see any option for video file preview in konqueror--> View--> Preview, do I need to install any plugin?

Well I do have an option for preview of video files in Konqueror. I am not really sure why you don't. I have Lenny with a 2.6.21 kernel, standard KDE. I do have VLC and the VLC plugin for mozilla installed. That might be it. Look into testing and unstable sources - I think I got it from there.

Have fun!

If you are referring to seeing a thumbnail pic of the video file change the Maxiumum file size to 100mb. If you are talking about the video file playing when you put the mouse over the file, I have never seen that happen.

Thanks. Yes, I am referring to showing the thumbnail pic of the video file and playing its sound. I changed the Maximum file size to 100mb, but still nothing happened.

Make sure you have a checkmark against Video Files in Konqueror--> View--> Preview.

When you launch your /home folder, you should see that option.

When I used OpenSUSE I had that situation that no previews for video were available and no choice available to put a check in.

I think that uses something installed along with mplayer. I'm using Debian Lenny now and have mplayer installed. I have the video thumbnail previews and also the option to uncheck it if desired.

Of course I have no idea why I have it now and did not in SUSE. I had mplayer installed in SUSE as well.

Your still running Kanotix? Has Kano finally released a new version?

If not and you like using Debian Sid you may want to consider switching to sidux.
