Pressing 'j' doesn't work reading man pages with xterm,

man <anycommand>,pressing 'j' to move down ,it doesn't work.
I have to hit enter for page down.
Why is it?

I believe Debian uses less to read manpages. I don't believe less uses the "j" key to move forward (I could be wrong -- maybe I should man less myself ). I typically use the space bar to move forward...

Lately I have found that all of PageDown, down-arrow, or "n" (next) will move forward (down the page(s) while PageUp, up-arrow, or "b" (back) will go backwards.
AFAIK, I'm usually using | less for man pages with Slack.
