Power management lockups

I have Debian "testing" on my laptop, and everything is working great. One small problem that I can't figure out is that when the computer goes into "sleep" mode (or maybe it's "standby") nothing brings it out of sleep again. I have to pull the plug and take out the battery and reboot.

I'm running KDE. I disabled the "Display Power Control" options in the KDE Control Center, but that didn't help. Can anyone give me a pointer of where I should look next? I searched for "apm" using "locate" and didn't find anything, so I think this is using ACPI.

Thank you

Can anyone help? I can't keep unplugging and taking out the battery to reboot 4 and 5 times a day. If I can't figure this out I will have to go back to windows.

If anyone is interested (I guess not) I "fixed" the problem by recompiling the Kernel and taking out APM and ACPI options. Now at least it just stays in screensaver mode. May you have better success than I if you have this glitch and are reading this.
