Question POSTFIX Email Server

I am looking into getting a POSTFIX email server up and running on Lenny and was wondering if anyone here has successfully used POSTFIX on Debian? Was there a challenge or any tricks to getting this working? This is my 1st attempt on getting an email server running on Linux and I am not sure where to look. Did a basic Google search but nothing stood out as a firm guide to follow step by step.

I know Qmail and Sendmail or popular but I need this to be POSTFIX so I can get to understand it.

Thanks for any info!

Also - I notice that Debian by default installs and uses Exim4. What is the best way to completely rid the system or Exim4 100% so there is no trace of it or any way it can conflict with other SMTP services?

I'm running the default configuration, only for local delivery (from system to root)
I installed postfix and then (probably manually) removed exim4.
It was straightforward and it works as I want.

Code:

I used the following how-to to setup Postfix, Courier, with Amavisd, Clam-AV, and Spamassassin. It is our corporate mail server and works extremely well.. http://www.debian-administration.org/articles/364

Although the how-to is for Sarge, I did this on both Sarge then later on Etch with no trouble at all..
If you plan to use your mail server for corporate use I would suggest Etch rather than Lenny. Uptime is everything when it comes to Corporate e-mail.

Code:
username@mail:~$ aptitude search postfix
i postfix - A high-performance mail transport agent
v postfix-tls -
username@mail:~$ aptitude search exim
c exim4 - metapackage to ease exim MTA (v4) installation
c exim4-base - support files for all exim MTA (v4) packages
c exim4-config - configuration for the exim MTA (v4)
v exim4-config-2 -
c exim4-daemon-light - lightweight exim MTA (v4) daemon

i courier-authlib-userdb - userdb support for the Courier authentication libr

username@mail:~$ aptitude search spamassassin
v libmail-spamassassin-perl -
i spamassassin - Perl-based spam filter using text analysis

username@mail:~$ cat /etc/apt/sources.list
#
# deb cdrom:[Debian GNU/Linux testing _Etch_ - Official Snapshot i386 NETINST Binary-1 20061222-08:51]/ etch main

deb http://ftp.uwsg.indiana.edu/linux/debian/ etch main contrib non-free
deb-src http://ftp.uwsg.indiana.edu/linux/debian/ etch main contrib non-free

deb http://volatile.debian.net/debian-volatile stable/volatile main

deb http://security.debian.org/ etch/updates main
deb-src http://security.debian.org/ etch/updates main
This how-to makes use of the volatile sources for up to date AV signatures. Good stuff !

Removing exim was as easy as aptitude install postfix
Since postfix and exim are both smtp servers Debian automatically removes exim when you install postfix.

I've setup postfix on both redhat and debian and I find the debian to be more flexible to setup and administer. You defenately do the transfer. I prefer Debian. Drop me an email if you need help.
