PHILIPS SAA7130 tuner card in Knoppix?

I am running a HD install of Knoppix v3.6.

I am about to buy a TV tuner card this Christmas, not for just watching, but mainly for PVR features as I have college classes at primetime all week.

I have looked and looked at programs, and I think that MythTV is the best out there for me.

So is the PHILIPS SAA7130 chip compatible with this program? Are there any problems with this program/chip in Debian-based distros?

The exact card I am leaning towards is the Compro VideoMate TV PVR/FM card from Newegg. Being a newbie, I cannot post the link...

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

This card should work fine with v4l driver saa7130. I have a Conexant based card and it runs fine on Kanotix and Sarge w/ stock 2.6.8 kernel. However, in Sarge, Discover picks up the card but for some reason doesn't load the appropriate drivers, which must be added to /etc/modules to be loaded at boot time. Otherwise, it runs flawlessly with tvtime.

For MythTV, you may want to use Knoppmyth:

Got it working

I too had problem in configuring the SAA7130 based card under Linux.
First i was using PCLinuxOS which is based on mandriva distribution but now using Ubuntu.
It took me almost 1 year to figure it out how to configure. so i documented it here http://jobinau.googlepages.com/saa71...cardunderlinux thinking that it will be useful for some of you if you are stuck.
It was too hard to get the audio working. but nowadays i am watching the TV in my Linux box.
It should work with any distribution because the driver SAA7130 is shipped with all new kernels

Hi all

Jobinau: Thank you for your saa1730 how to! It was really what I was looking for! (after loosing many hours with audio settings...)
Regarding to the audio, finally I was able to configure it but now I have a direct connection that works with software like tvtime but not with mythtv due to audio sync problems. Do you know any workaround for that?
Thanks!
