I really can't imagine why you were downloading installation media to do an upgrade.

Believing in the power of original software is the key to that question. I've programmed for over 30 years and you have no idea how often access to original installation software can save the day. Yes I read read the documentation. More than once. I'll see what I can do in the future.

I quite like etch and it's good to know install tasks=kde-desktop is the install option to load kde as default. I downloaded just the 1st DVD (after asking on here I think if all were necessary). Given that KDE and gnome are on the 1st DVD, is it asking a lot to have an option during the install process as to which, if any, you would like to make the default. And if flux of xfce are on the 1st DVD, then add them as options to.
