partioning_problem

I have a Laptop - ThinkPad 800Mhz - 40G HD
DVD - ROM
128 MB RAM
Problem 1 .- BIOS Lock asking for a password. The computer was bought in a sort of auction by a non-profit and I do not have the password.

Problem 2.- When I try to partition the HD with fdsk or fsdisk from RAM and with KNOPPIX installed there is a non-authorized message.

What should I do to partition the hard drive correctly . Please, it is important.

to partition the drive, there is no reason not to use qtparted. A whole lot easier than cfdisk. See whether you also get the message.

Are you root when you attempt to reformat ?
