Recently, I installed Sarge (net-inst, May 23) using linux26 on my laptops.
It is working more or less, but few problems remain. While trying to compile 'my own' configured kernel, I wonder, where is the orginal Sarge's .config of the Sarge made kernel of 2.6.5.-1.

I looked at
but it has only one item with value, while the running systems has lots of kernel modules insatlled
under .
So I figure, this is not the configuration used to get the 2.6.5-1 kernel
insatlled by Sarge.

If I start from 'scratch' I end up with worse problems.
So I would like to do the modification in evolution.

try looking at /boot/config-2.6.5 or similiar (/boot/config-*)

kernel-source-* packages don't include any default .config as far as i know.

When i compile my kernels i usually download in addition a kernel-image-* package for my architecture (of the same version) and then i extract the config file from the package (this can be done using 'ar' or even exploring with mc) and use it as the base for my own configuration. i know it sounds silly but i don't know of a better way, and i don't mind waiting 2 more minutes till it downloads, so i guess it's a "good enough" (tm) solution for those who are blessed with fast connection.

if you already have a 2.6 kernel installed simply run #cp /boot/config-2.6* /usr/src/linux/.config && make oldconfig
