OPT INITRD Directory Purpose(s)? Needed?

SID 2.6.8-7 w/ initrd image.

Upgraded some time ago to SID from WOODY (7 CD SET). The initial install included directories INITRD and OPT. Even though I have an initrd image installed (fixed dsdt in initrd patch from gaugush page), there is nothing in INITRD. Also OPT has nothing in it.

Would someone tell me what these directories are for? If they aren't of any use, im a gonna killem. However, I don't want to kill something that may be looked for or used in the future.

Again, all initrd stuff is in other places. Have no idea what OPT is for.

Thanx Again.
