Onboard sound chip problem after kernel upgrade

Hello,

I recently updated to a new kernel, on SID (this is the last major hardware or software thing that has changed, besides normal upgrades):
Quote:

Linux version 2.6.16-2-686 (Debian 2.6.16-14) (waldi@debian.org) (gcc version 4.0.4 20060507 (prerelease) (Debian 4.0.3-3)) #2 Mon May 22 23:10:59 UTC 2006
Kernel has reported in dmesg the following:
Quote:

Intel ICH: probe of 0000:00:1f.5 failed with error -12
And lspci output is:
Quote:

There is probably something wrong low down with the on-board chip discovery. Unfortunately I have no clue where to look for a possible bug report or remedy. Google and LQ forum didn't help either.

Please help me out, either directly or by letting me know how to continue debugging the problem. :)

Hi, have you tried "alsaconf" in a terminal as root?

coralsaw 06-13-2006 05:26 AM

Thanks Tuttle, yes I have tried alsaconf. The problem is that the chip is not discovered, so I don't expext alsa to be able to find it either.

Any other help please?

hmm, don't think I can help any further then, no "snd_*" modules loaded at boot then I suppose?

Mysteriously solved after my next upgrade, sound is back up. Thanks anyway.
