oh dear! i did something bad with apt?

hi.
i'm not quite sure what just happened to my debian box?
i just typed in
apt-get ugrade
and now everthing has gone bad. there was an option when it was installing a whole bunch of stuff asking me if i wanted to save settings and backup old configuration or something, but i can't quite remember what that was.
could somebody steer me into the right direction as to where i should start looking to resolve/restore this issue?

thanks

can you post what's in your /etc/apt/sources.list? How long ago was your last upgrade? Other things you feel you need to mention?

here it is.
my last ugrade would have been a long time ago. perhaps 6 months.
i get a whole bunch of module errors that fly past way to fast to read
that i am not familer with then at
starting MTA (which i thought i swtiched off)
it restarts. if i run recovery mode i can get to a # prompt but will
restart in about a minute of typing.

now my computer restarts before it finishes loading linux, i can get
to recover mode but only for a brief time before it restarts again.

i have a split win/XP demudi boot up. could someone tell me if i was
to reinstall demudi from the CD-ROM. will it overwrite my bootloder
and grub stuff. or will it just take on the partitions and leave
windows alone for a full reinstall.

thanks

btw demudi is from www.agnula.org

it may be that when you did an apt-get upgrade, it took all the packages that are new since you last upgrade, and this caused things to break.

that is odd. perhaps a guru could help you with that? Anyone else wanna take a shot?
