Obtaining low-latency multimedia kernel compatible with Debian

I know I could compile my own kernel to set the latency and rtc timer resolution, but I've often found problems in such a scenario, because there are plenty of ways to accidentally remove support for an essential hardware.

Is there any repository that offers a "Debianized" kernel with low latency (pre-emptive multitasking and high RTC timer resolution)?

Another question: I often work with video and audio - will having a multimedia-optimized kernel actually help?

Thanks for the useful link. I will definitely inquire into that.

Would you suggest that installing the Debian kernel source package and working off that is better or is the pure kernel.org source a better bet?

I ask because I've had a few problems with the pristine kernel sources in Debian before - some of the hardware detection seems a bit off unless the kernel is totally modular and patched. That's why I preferred not to have to compile a non-Debianized kernel.
