ntfs mount not responding

so i just got my amd64 pc updated with flash and all that other fancy jazz and would like to mount my ntfs storage partition with my media files so I can get back to using linux fulltime. i execute the following as root

mount -t ntfs /dev/sda2 /mnt/winstorage

and it never finishes executing and never gives me an error either. on top of that, I cannot kill the process and it keeps my computer from shutting down properly. so i am curious how to check if ntfs support is in my kernel, what im doing wrong, and also once its working read only, how to do a *safe* read/write so I can share files with windows... for example if I want to encode a dvd video in winxp.

i am running lenny kernel 2.6.26. my pc is a dell inspiron with an amd64 prossecor, 2 gigs or ram, and 2 350gb sata2 drives.

thx

You should be using ntfs-3g to mount ntfs partitions read write.

aptitude install ntfs-3g

ntfs-3g /dev/sda2 /mnt/winstorage -o umask=0,nls=utf8

If that all works you can add it to your /etc/fstab file so it will automatically mount

/dev/sda2 /mnt/winstorage ntfs-3g umask=0,nls=utf8 0 0

man ntfs-3g for more information
