Not able to set up canon bjc-4200 with cups
 

Hello, here's my problem. I've got a Canon BJC-4200 and I've donwload the ppd file from linuxprinting.org, and I'm following the steps that I read in this tutorial: http://uw713doc.sco.com/en/PR_admin/cups-start.html. I've plugged my printer and powered it on (before to start up my PC). When I've got debian running, I connect to localhost:631 from firefox and I connect to cupsys damon. Then, I try to set up my printer, but I find two problems. The first one is that the GUI wizard don't show me the Parallel port, only many USB (up to 16), and some others. So I try to select "LPD/LPR Host or Printer" (no reason, but other options didn't like me), and then it asks me for URI (the second problem). I am not able to discover what I've to answer. I try to put "file:/usr/share/cups/canon.prn", (this file doesn't exist). Then I chose the canon model (I've copied the canon PPD file in /usr/share/cups/model), and when I finish the wizard I obtain an error.

I don't know what to do to solve this, so I post here hopping to find a solution. If anyone could help me, but need more info, I put what you could ask me.

Some info:
- running debian woddy (upgraded to sarge, Im using testing apt sources)
- Printer Canon BJC-4200 (Yes it's old :D) plugged using parallel port (only have one!)
- using KDE (with KDE printer managment, I have the problem with the URI. I don't know what to put. But with this GUI managment I could chose "parallel port")

It should work prefectly. Make sure you have the ppd downloaded and saved in your /usr/share/cups/model/ directory. I think your URI is supposed to look something like lpt0:/dev/lp0 or something similar.

It seems that is a kernel problem (Ive the ppd file (the canon one) on the correct dir), I'm on 2.6.7, but I want to recomiple it again (to making smaller), so now I've got an excuse :D. I'll try and see if it finally works.

PS: As it is said in the reference link, the URI should be "parallel:/dev/lp0" ;)
