Question No thumbnails for webm files in Debian 8 Stable (Jessie) using MATE.

Hi.

In icon view, I have no thumbnail for webm files in Debian 8 Stable (Jessie) using MATE. It already has ffmpegthumbnailer installed.

Any fix?

Thanks.

The little icons in Caja (not Nautilus); you don't run tumblerd ('nailer)? So, wrong-guess...
Edit: oooops, I think you already did this. Sorry, I don't 'do' GUIs. But I just learned a lot

Question

I manually renamed a webm video to mkv and the thumbnail appeared right away.

Would it matter if I renamed all my .webm files to .mkv? Would there be a downside?

Echoz on #debian helped me out.

In /usr/share/thumbnailers, add video/webm; to the file ffmpegthumbnailer.thumbnailer.

Lightbulb

I also noticed that there were no thumbnails for .ogv video files. Adding 'ogg' like above solves that.

thanks for posting the solution!

on my system /usr/share/thumbnailers is a directory with config files.
could you add the contents and exact names of the files you added?

Hi ondoho, you're welcome.

The 3 files are:
atril.thumbnailer
ffmpegthumbnailer.thumbnailer
mate-font-viewer.thumbnailer

The only one I edited was ffmpegthumbnailer.thumbnailer and this is the content of it:
Code:
[Thumbnailer Entry]
TryExec=ffmpegthumbnailer
Exec=ffmpegthumbnailer -i %i -o %o -s %s -f
MimeType=video/jpeg;video/mp4;video/mpeg;video/quicktime;video/x-ms-asf;video/x-ms-wm;video/x-ms-wmv;video/x-msvideo;video/x-flv;video/x-matroska;video/webm;video/ogg;
