no sound on mplayer; xmms works


on 2.4.x kernel.

xmms plays sound perfectly. Mplayer detects no sound but plays the video.

What to do?

please be specific...somewhat of a newbie

try to download some codecs...

or

mplayer -ao alsa9 file.avi

Still doesn't work, here are the messages...
