Post No NetCard Detected after Kernel Upgrade

I have Debian 3.0 Woody on my machine and recently I have upgraded my kernel 2.2.20 to kernel 2.4.22.

All the devices and services (except for the sound card) were working prior the upgrade; now all seems to be working alright except for the Network card; it simply does not detect it.
I did go through the 'lspci' file and the rest of it to find out if it is detected and all appears to be so. But as I execute the command 'ifconfig eth0 <ip.address>' etc., it comes out an error message that says: 'no device found'.

Another thing I did was to get the first cd of Debian Sarge dist., and I also upgraded some of my packages by doing:
" apt-cdrom add -> apt-get update -> apt-get upgrade"
I then noticed that some packages were being uninstalled and now, some of the functions in the Gnome xwindow appear to malfunction.

Now, what I would need is some ideas of how to setup properly the NetCard+sound+Gnome xwindow back"!

Any help would be greatly appreciated"!

Thanks a lot you guys,...."!

Its likely you will have to re-install the network card driver. The reason being that you have installed a new kernel and therefore new kernel modules. As root do modconf and go down the list until you find the net card drivers and select and install the relevant driver. Then do /etc/init.d/networking start.
