"No Hard Disk Drives detected" error when installing Woody as guest OS in VMware

I'm wanting to test Debian 3.0r1 on my Win XP machine via VMware 4 before
trying to fully install without vmware.
Gobsmacked by this error & can't seem to find in any forums.
Any ideas?
