Nmbd crashes silently

Hello everyone,
i'm new here and I can not speak very good english, i'm sorry for this.

I have a trouble in a little debian server with samba installed.
Sometimes my windows clients can not see the server's samba resources and if i restart the samba service i see that the nmbd service was not running. I check the log and i see that this had a silent crash because i have some trace rows but no errors.
This happends 1-2 times during a day, and i solve restarting the samba service.

I tried to link the resources directly with the IP and i show that the windows clients can access to shares also without the nmbd service, so i can understand that everthing works except the netbios service.

This is an example of log after a nmbd crash (with PS i can not find its)
Code:

[2009/10/12 14:00:04,  0] nmbd/nmbd.c:main(849)
  nmbd version 3.2.5 started.
Copyright Andrew Tridgell and the Samba Team 1992-2008

nothing more...

Have you got any suggestion to fix this problem? Now I'm forced to restart samba every 6h with a cron record.... not a very good solution, i know.

Thank you.

Well, there are worse hacks than a cron job! Take a look at a tool called monit, it will monitor running processes and restart jobs based on rules you create. google for it.
In terms of nmbd, can you tell us what version of samba you are running?

I know that a cron job is not a good solution, but i want to understand why it crashes... mine is a temprorary solution.
The samba version is the last with a standard debian distribution (i run apt-get update yesterday and it is up to date).

thanks

Thanks, but it is crashing again. I tried to remove the pid file, but it crash silently (no error on log also with a 10 log level)...
What can be?

thanks

Hmmm, I really don't know. It's a problem I had with an old slackware install, fortunately I moved to Ubuntu Server for this role, and the nmbd issue has not reappeared.
