NFS large file v3 force?

so i've used linux for years and never encountered this problem ( but then agian i've only been using debian for a month or so )
typical nfs share between debian and my mandrake/mandrive computers but i can't see large files
so i'm assuming i have force version 3.. how do i do this? ive looked at all the scripts and trying sneaking the --version 3 option in somewhere but nothing...
any ideas?
also why is it defaulting to v2 ?

ps i installed user-server as its the only one i have ever run

ok i figured out one fix, but i don't like it
installing package unfs3
the user-server package should have support for version 3 and even 4
