Smile Newbie:Permission denied


Hi all
This newbie needs help
Ive installed Debian 3.0 R2 / STABLE i think????
im having alot of trouble starting : startx , keep getting the message that
no workable screens are found , to be used .
Im trying to work though this by reading your forums list , but when I try to access files like : /var/log/XFree86.0.log
:/etc/X11/XF86Config or /XF86Config-4
I keep getting the message that : Permission Denied
Im logged in as ' root ' at command Line ......


Can anybody help ??????????

At the command line do su. You will be asked for your root password and then proceed from there.
