Are you into self punishment? :)
I really like Debian and use it for my desktop, but even I don't recommend it for newbs. May I suggest Mepis?? It is Debian converted for newbs. ;) Anyway, if you're gonna be a REAL Debian user, you gotta know how to solve these things for yourself. In google I entered: debian "respawning too fast" Here are your results: "init: respawning too fast: disabled for 5 ..." http://www.google.com/search?num=50&...22&btnG=Search |
Since you are having trouble installing i would try mandrake. The install is very easy. It even partitions your hard drive for you

skip mandrake. Package-management (installing new software) in debian is perfect for newbs. However the initial install can be daunting or can be a walk in the park depending on your hardware. A mobo with an nvidia based chipset and configuring X for dual screens and a dual boot with windows can be a lot. But for a basic setup without any rare hardware in your box is pretty simple. If you have broadband go with the netinstall. If not get the cds ( do a search on this forum to see if you can get by with just the first cd). Oh, and there is always ubuntu , which is getting a lot of nice reviews. Ubuntu is debian based, and you can try it out with a live cd before you install it.
