newbie debian

Hello

As a complete newbie to Debian I have dual booted a debian installation disc (magazine cover) with windows xp but now I am stuck. Turn on the pc, the screen appears for a fraction of a second giving you the option to choose xp or debian and then the screen changes to pages of debian testing info (white writing on black background) and then ends with a cursor. Maybe there is a good book to purchase out there...
Where do I go from here.....

Thanks
Smokeyone

Hi!

When the text ends with a line saying Login:, you're in Linux. From there you have to login as root and the password you set when installing Debian. From there you can type apt-get install kde to install a desktop environment

----There is soooo muuuuch you surely would like to read...I suggest you the official Debian website or just googling w/the keywords 'linux for newbies'....
I am sure that as soon as you begin to read and get familiar with Debian you will end up enjoying.....sure...!!!!!

Thank you both for the advice but my boot up problem is that there is no login line.

After pages of info the last few lines are...........
Linux Kernel card services 3.1.22
options: [pci] [cardbus] [pm]

and that's it. I bet I've made a goofy on the installation.
