New Radeon GPU, tiny text on terminal session.

(Debian Buster latest, loaded minimal then added XFCE and a few specific programs. The canned installs of the Debian menu were not used.)

I replaced my onboard Intel GPU with an inexpensive Radeon 7750 and a 4k monitor and the difference is humongous, not only in the looks of XFCE but in the speed that something like GIMP now shows. But, there is a problem. When I alt-fx to a terminal session, I get text that is absolutely beautiful, but if it were on a printer, would be about a 2 sized font. In other words, tiny. I have changed terminal font sizes many times in the past, but in these post SystemD days, my old manuals and notes don't work very well. Thus far, my searches have found a considerable number of hits, but none have worked. I am still searching, but anybody got a fix off the top of their head?

Thanks

I have found:
  • /usr.share/kbd/consolefonts for fonts outside of X (accessed from x with Ctrl_Alt_Fx
  • Select terminals with variable fonts inside X

On the text on print pages being microscopic, use a bigger font. Everything has a menu. Or lower your screen resolution.

/Makes a mental note never to use a 4k monitor on text. HDMI is bad enough.

Finally found it. Wow,systemd has really moved stuff around from the old days! Might as well chuck my old manuals. They just lead to mostly dead ends. If only there was a way to look up stuff electronically.

in /etc/default/console-setup
change FONTSIZE from 8x16 to 16x32.

On a 4k monitor, the CLI text is really sharp compared to the old DVI/VGA stuff. Raster and dots are completely gone.

That's great. I also use terminus console fonts done by RH, distributed by slackware & others They go up to 32pt. I found issues with the biggest sizes on some boxes in the past, but I'm very happy with 28pt. Just dropping a few font files into /usr/share/consolefonts isn't enough in debian though.
