New Debian project

apt-get has done a great job, creeping into Red Hat and other distros, but a new thing is on the way. It looks like Gentoo creep is happening to Debian now!

Sounds like a very interesting project.

Honestly, this sounds like Arch Linux. It features a source and binary package management system. ABS is like PORTS and Pacman is like APT-GET. Just want to make sure you dont needlessly duplicate someones work.

Well, if you can improve the Debian installer, im all for it.

Will this project will be completly debian compatable?

Can't you just
apt-get -b source theprogram
dpkg -i theprogram.deb

Not only that, but you can use apt-build apt-src or pbuilder.
