network-manager issue connecting to WiFi
Hello there, I am using Debian Testing with MATE on my Laptop and I'm having a lot of difficulty using network-manager to manage my Wireless connection.

I am able to connect by running the following command in the terminal:
/etc/init.d/network-manager restart

This usually allows the network to connect, but I still cannot manage my wireless connections from here, and hope to be able to if i can. The reason I need to be able to manage my connection is to connect to different wireless spots since I am on the move alot.

I've done some research online and have noticed this is a common issue but have not been able to resolve it. Is there a replacement for network-manager I could use?

Also while I understand MATE is not a default window manager of choice for Debian Testing, this issue occurs with GNOME 3.

Any replies will be much appreciated.

aptitude install wicd
Am using wicd to connect to my network.

Assuming your wireless is working, you can just apt-get install wicd and start wicd-client
else you may need some non-free firmware from here

Remember to add wlan0 into the wicd-client to get it working, image here

Good Luck
