Right now, I'm trying to use 2 DVDs to install Debian (3.1_r1 "stable") to my computer.
The only thing going wrong with the installation is that Debian Installer cannot auto-detect my network controller, which is the NVIDIA nForce Network Controller. I tried individually selecting forcedeth, but that fails as well. Finally, a screen comes up asking for the irq and io since it was not detected.
What are these?
How can I find out what I need to put in for them?
What else can I do?
See: Sig for specs
Thanks for your help!!!
EDIT: For now, I just gave up and skipped the network auto-detection stage of the installation. Now I've got the problem of installing the drivers with no internet!
Anyone know where I can find them?
Sorry sparka for trouble. You can do google search with your nvidia network card and sarge install for leads. You can also google sarge install on your pc model. You can search LQ for similar posts to yours.
Glad you were able to install debian sarge this far.
lspci and dmesg can give more info on that nforce network controller. I am sure many at this forum have sarge installed with that nforce. Have fun.
Show us what lspci shows--at cli or terminal su passwd then lspci. Then check what network card is id'ed. There maybe a lan reference too. If it is forcedeth module you need,it is included in 2.6x sarge install kernel--available on your dvds.
Apt-get update and apt-get install/upgrade should work with dvds as apt sources. Apt-get install synaptic will give you gui for apt. You should be able to install desktop system from those dvds.
