Netinstall question

Hi there,

I've a question that may sounds stupid, there are different ISO download for installation one is called 'Netinstall', I've never used it, I always download the full ISO. Since the netinstall does not contain everything including drivers, which supposed to grab from the net during installation, but without a lan driver how could we proceed with netintall ?

The net install contains the min amount of software to get the installation up and running. If your adapter is not recognized and you need to download drivers and firmware you can just install the base. Then download the drivers from another computer and install.

I normally choose the full *.iso to burn to disk, but, if your internet connection works, my experience has been that the net install works.

If you have a wired connection (preferable) or a wireless connection that has kernel support, a full net install should work just fine. It does take longer than a disk install, as updated software must be downloaded from the internet, but, when you are done, you are up-to-date.

If you don't have a wired connection or you have a wireless connection that does not have kernel support (Broadcom, Realtek, for example), then what michaelk said.

I typically do the non-free netinstall since my laptops (Thinkpad T510) wireless cards firmware isn't in the normal netinst or the full img but it works the exact same way, just pulling the packages in real time vs off your install dvd/usb.

wired connection usually works, in my experience.
if it doesn't, then you really want the full iso.
