net_inst behind proxy

I'm having difficulty using my Debian net_inst cd behind a proxy. I do not have to go through the proxy for ftp so I selected a ftp site to download from but it tries to connect to security.debian.org for security patches. Is there any way to specify the proxy to use?

I've tried switching virtual consoles and using 'export http_proxy='my.proxy.server.addy:3128' with no luck. Any suggestions?

Just a thought - have you tried using http instead of ftp ? I've done a few net installs of sarge over the past weeks through the university firewall & proxy, with no probs using http.
