Need Some Thoughts Please!!!

I have only been using linux for about six months. I am not a total newb but still have a lot to learn. I used Gentoo for awhile and have settled to Mepis apted to Debian.
My problem is that for my job (everything is done on a work website) no web browser seems to work except IE6, not mozilla, opera, netscape, none other than IE6 and that goes for when I am using WinXP none of those other web browsers work. I have tried installing IE6 under crossover office but it just locks up all the time and that doesn't work either. I just wanted to see if anybody had any suggestions.

Thanks

When you say that no other web browser works, do you mean that they are blocked by the proxy server? You can add your proxy settings in Mozilla and Netscape (and also Firebird/Fox afaik) by doing Edit-->Preferences-->Advanced-->Proxies and then manually entering the proxy settings (which you can get from IE).

I haven't tried adding the proxies, but here is what happens.

I can log into the secure web page and browse around but I have certain javascript links that when I click on them it says page loading like it usually does and then it says done but the page loading bar just keeps going back and forth and never loads the page (if that makes any sense). There is also another javascript link that when I click on that one nothing happens at all.

Thanks far all the help so far I would love to get rid of Windows all together.

Thanks

If anyone else has any ideas let me know.

Also how do I get the proxy settings from IE

Hmmm I kinda suspect that your problem has something to do with sites having a particular preference for IE browsers...have you tried passing off your borwser e.g. Opera as a MSIE 6 browser? In Opera 7.23 > goto File > Quick preferences and select Identify as MSIE 6.0...you can do likewise in Konqueror ... see if this is it...hmmm

Yup didn't work

In IE click Tools-->Internet Options-->Connections-->LAN Settings then make a note of all your proxy settings and then transfer them to your chosen browser. You may also need to load java for windows to make the javascript pages work. In Mozilla (for example) click Help-->About Plugins and follow the links.

So, is it that there are certiain work critical sites that for some reason or another will not render properly? If only certain sites will not render properly, check out mozillazine forums and ask them there. They will be able to give you some help, and perhaps fix your problemo.

I don't have any numbers in the proxy settings but I will try the mozillazine forums.

Thanks
