Need help installing splash screen Please

I have been using Sarge Debian for almost a year now and managed to mess up the pc by trying to remove Jagged fronts, I really messed up, this time. Installing the fronts only matters worst. The pc was totally mucked up so I had no other choice but to Un- install , then reinstall Debian again from scratch. (Lost all my data) one years worth.

I never really had to download anything, or configure the pc the entire time while I using Debian I had a nice hook up with a few minor twinks to make the desktop look better, so Now I'm trying to make the desktop look the same way as it looked before I had to Un- install Debian. The log in screen I am using now is butt ugly, and I would like to change it and use a different one, however I have to idea where to begin, and was wondering if someone could please show me how to Install this splash screen that is located here at gnome- look http://www.gnome-look.org/content/sh...?content=27360

I attempted to download the them, so I would be able to read the help file the download did not download when I had clicked on the link, this happens everywhere I go. Every time I click on a link to download a them etc nothing happens, no menu no nothing.

So I was wondering of someone would show me how to go about downloading and then installing the log in theme that is located in the link posted in this post. The last time I downloaded a theme, then dragged the theme into the folder, the pc would not boot and I had to Un-install and then re- install Debian, again and I don't want to go through that night mare all over again. All I want to do is to make my desktop look the way it was before. Any suggestions on how to install this log in theme will very much appreciated.

That looks like a gdm theme to me and not a splash screen. To install it run "gdmsetup" (configure login screen) and you will find the options to install themes, just point the installer to the file you downloaded and the theme will appear in the list available for use.

I am an uber noob When you say run "gdmsetup", how do you actually run it. I have logged in as root and tried several ways, but apparently not the right one.

Start a terminal e.g. konsole or gnome-terminal and run the command from there. You could also look in the gnome menu for an entry that says "Login Screen Setup" or something similar.

Somethings wrong, I went to the website, clicked on the download link and, nothing happened, no save to disk menu option, no nothing. For some reason another, I am not able to download Anything off the Internet.

Also , I opened gdmsetup, in the terminal . as root, clicked on the pre installed greeter listed inside the gdmsetup terminal, then clicked on the install tab, after that a menu came up asking where I wanted to install the greeter. Home, desktop, file-system etc I don't know where to save them at. sorry for being such a noob but I do believe that something is wrong with the pc or the people who designed the log in screens.

I also chose to install them via log in same thing highlight the theme choose the greeter. click on the install menu , and again a menu comes up asking where I want to install the theme desktop, home. filesysteme etc , I don't know what else to do I had no idea installing a simple log in screen would be so complicated, THanks for the reply, I have no idea what I could be doing wrong.

Right-click on the link below, then choose Save As, and finally select the download location that you prefer on your system. Somewhere in your /home path would be appropriate.
